In 2012, residents of Colorado voted for Amendment 64 to their state constitution, which legalized marijuana for recreational use. The new law took effect on January 1, 2014, and the sale of marijuana quickly became a legal billion-dollar industry. In 2017 alone, taxes on marijuana sales earned about $250 million for the state.

Since 2010, photographer Benjamin Rasmussen has documented the state's legal weed industry, from the years when it was legal for medicinal purposes on through the present day. In his photos, we see the everyday people behind the state's marijuana retailers, growing operations, and financial institutions.
